VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

John Tonkin College Education Support Centre aims to acknowledge and respect the
heritage and connections of the Bindjareb people of the Noongar Nation, who named the
locality Mandjoogoordap (now Mandurah) which translates to ‘meeting place of the
heart’. We actively seek to respectfully incorporate the cultures, perspectives, and
contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in our school community
and actively promote reconciliation across our campus. Our vision for reconciliation and
commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is to: – Inform and educate
current and future generations about reconciliation – Create a culturally safe place of
learning where everyone can respectfully experience the vibrant and diverse cultures of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples – Acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander protocols, traditions and ways of , knowing, being and doing – Recognise the
part we all play in the journey towards reconciliation – Engage and form respectful and
reciprocal partnerships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities We
want to walk our journey in partnership with the community in order to raise awareness
about, and drive action together towards reconciliation.
